First Responders To Ride In VTV Gran Fondo For Campus Safety

THE 3RD ANNUAL VTV GRAN FONDO FOR CAMPUS SAFETY TAKES PLACE OCTOBER 5 IN FAIRFAX, VA.

FAIRFAX, Va., September 18, 2013 – The VTV Family Outreach Foundation (VTV) announced a new 25% discount for First Responders that participate in the 3rd Annual VTV Gran Fondo for Campus Safety. The mass cycling event will be held on October 5th, 2013 in the beautiful Mosaic District, Fairfax, Virginia. Proceeds from the ride will support VTV’s mission to improve school safety across the nation, as well as help assist victims of mass tragedies. An expo featuring vendors, food, music and entertainment will be held near the finish area.

“The International Police Mountain Bike Association encourages all DC-area public safety cyclists to take advantage of the 25% discount offered to First Responders interested in riding the VTV Gran Fondo,” said IPMBA Executive Director Maureen Becker. “This is an excellent opportunity to support the VTV Family Outreach Foundation in its efforts to assist victims of campus crime and their families while indulging in a favorite past-time. If you are able to ride in uniform, it will also raise awareness of the important role played by police, EMS, and security cyclists on campuses and in communities.”

A local Law Enforcement Officer not allowed to provide his name said, “As a Hokie and a member of the International Police Mountain Bike Association, I jump at the chance to participate in an event that aids services to victims of crime, promotes campus safety, and provides the opportunity for law enforcement to have fun with the community and develop public trust.”

Gran Fondos are long-distance, mass participation cycling events popular in Italy. They’re open to recreational and competitive cyclists alike. Riders at this event will travel either the 100-mile route to Quantico or the 32-mile route to Burke Lake, both beginning and ending in Mosaic.

Among the First Responders, other notable riders at this event include the VTV Cycling Team and Monte Frank from Team 26 and the Sandy Hook Riders, known for their “Ride On Washington” this past March in honor of the Sandy Hook victims. VTV has also personally invited their friends U.S. Senator Mark WarnerU.S. Senator Tim KaineU.S. Congressman Frank WolfU.S. Congressman Gerry ConnollyU.S. Congressman Bobby Scott, and other state and elected officials to attend.

The event is open to the public and all ages are invited to show their support for improving campus safety. There will be plenty of activities for cyclist enthusiasts, local Virginia Tech football fans, VT Alumni, and kids of all ages. Look for local food truck specials and boutique vendors near the finish area. Spots are available for additional vendors on a first come basis.
